In the community

Some of our connections do not come with a bill.

We work in these communities every day. Where we can, we put something back into them — quietly, and without making a campaign of it.

What we do

Three things, kept small and kept going.

We would rather run a few things properly and for a long time than announce something large and let it lapse.

Running

Free internet for rural schools

Selected rural schools within our coverage are connected on our network at no charge. The connection is the same one our paying subscribers get — we do not run a lesser service for the schools.

The reason is simple. A school without a connection cannot use the material, the training or the administration systems that everyone else now assumes are available. Cost should not be the thing that decides which learners get access.

Running

Food support in the Kavango regions

We sponsor food to remote schools in the Kavango regions. It is a small, ongoing programme rather than a one-off donation.

It began because the need was in front of us while we were working out there, and it continues for the same reason.

In planning

Upgrading and building schools

We are working towards upgrading existing school buildings and building new ones for far-lying communities where the need is greatest.

This is a plan, not something we have delivered yet. We would rather say so plainly than claim credit early.

We are not a foundation and we do not pretend to be. We are an internet company that happens to work in the places where the need is most obvious — and it would be strange to drive past it every week and do nothing.

For schools and communities

If your school is out there, talk to us.

We cannot connect every school, and we will not promise what we cannot deliver. But if your school or community sits within reach of our network, tell us where you are and we will look at it honestly.

The same goes for organisations already working in these areas. If you are running something in rural Kavango and connectivity is the missing piece, there may be a way for us to help.
